His party reminded the government to be careful in implementing Law Number 5 of 2018 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism.
"In order not to cause collateral damage, such as wrong arrests, wrong shooting, wrong interrogation, and others that can be categorized as human rights violations," he explained.
According to Steve, the government should have focused more on solving the root problems in Papua according to the research results of the government agency, namely LIPI. As well as resolving a number of alleged corruption cases and resolving cases of human rights violations that have been agreed upon by the government.
"Responding to the root of the problem in the Land of Papua, conflict resolution steps such as in Aceh are a very wise peaceful solution, but of course it is carried out at different stages because Papua has many factions," he said.
Steve also asked the government to evaluate the efforts to approach violence so far in Papua. The government must provide a solution for the thousands of residents who are currently evacuating from the villages, due to attacks from the KKB and law enforcement operations by the Police and the TNI.
"The government needs to immediately implement President Jokowi's new paradigm regarding the development approach in Papua Land in accordance with Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2020 and Presidential Decree No. 20 of 2020," he concluded.
