UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres Is Very Worried That The US Attack On Iran Will Exacerbate Tensions

JAKARTA - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was "very worried" about the United States military attack on Iran's nuclear facilities that could potentially exacerbate regional tensions.

"This is a dangerous escalation in an area that is increasingly threatened -- and a direct threat to international peace and security," the UN Secretary-General said on social media X, monitored on Sunday, as reported by Antara.

According to him, the risk that the current conflict could be increasingly out of control, leading to the "worst consequence for civilians, the region and the world", is increasing.

He also called for UN members to prioritize de-escalation and fulfill their obligations according to the UN Charter and international law. "In times as precarious as these, it is important for us to avoid the vortex of chaos," Guterres said.

"There is no such thing as a military solution. The only way forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace," added the Secretary General of the United Nations.

Earlier, United States President Donald Trump stated that the US had completed a "very successful attack" on three nuclear facility points in Iran, Saturday (21/6).

The attack came after Israel reportedly asked the US to engage in the airstrikes it had carried out earlier against a number of points in Iran.

Israel has also attacked several facilities linked to Tehran's nuclear development program since they launched a missile strike on June 13.

However, the Iranian government has predicted an attack on the Fordow nuclear facility, so the facility has been evacuated, Iranian parliamentary chief adviser Mehdi Mohammadi said.

According to him, thanks to this anticipation, there was no damage to the Fordow nuclear facility that could not be restored.

The US involvement in Israel's aggression against Iran, against Tehran's warning not to interfere, is expected to lead to unavoidable escalation worsening in the region.
