Marc Marquez Records The 100th Pole Position For The Italian MotoGP, Ready To Extend The Dominance At Mugello
JAKARTA - Marc Marquez again showed his class as one of the world's motorcycle racing legends. Saturday, June 21, the Spaniard took pole position for the Italian MotoGP at the Mugello Circuit with an impressive time of 1 minute 44.169 seconds, only 0.059 seconds clear of rivals and teammates in Ducati, Francesco Bagnaia.
This result marks the 100th pole position of Marquez's career in the first class, affirming his dominance this season and in the history of MotoGP as a whole.
"The 100th pole is special, especially in Mugello which is always challenging. I feel the motorbike is very stable, the team is working amazingly, and I am ready to give my best in sprints and the main race," Marquez said after the qualifying session, quoted from the official MotoGP website.
Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia who is known to be very tough at Mugello with three consecutive wins on this track had to settle for the second start despite having led the record time at the end of Q2.
Bagnaia is currently 93 points behind Marquez in the drivers' standings after eight Grand Prix series this season. With Marquez leading the title race, the duel of the two will certainly be in the spotlight throughout this weekend.
Alex Marquez Completes Front Line
Marc's brother, Alex Marquez, looks solid with KTM. He noted that only 0.83 seconds later and will fill third on the grid, completing the front row for the sprint race Saturday afternoon at 15.00 local time (19.00 WIB).
Alex, who is now in second place in the racer standings, 32 points behind Marc, will certainly try to take advantage of the results of this qualification to reduce the difference in points.
Fierce Competition In Q1
Drama has occurred since the Q1 session. Fermin Aldeguer from BK8 Gresini and Raul Fernandez from the MotoGP Trackhouse managed to secure two tickets to Q2 after a tight battle with Johann Zarco and Jack Miller.
Fernandez even had time to go down to third place before recording a faster time and overtaking Miller with a margin of only 0.014 seconds.
New Record In Mugello
Entering Q2, Marc Marquez immediately stepped on the gas with a score of 1:44,500, breaking the Mugello record temporarily. Bagnaia, Fabio Quartararo, Franco Morbidelli, and Alex Marquez overtake each other in the top five to the last five seconds.
Bagnaia had won P1 with 1:44,228, but Marquez broke the record again with 1:44,169, confirming himself as the owner of the record pole most in MotoGP.
