Honda 0 Series Electric Cars Present In 2026 Can Drive Alone Without Intervention
JAKARTA - The Helm.ai startup, which is supported by Honda Motor, has just introduced its advanced camera-based system, Helm.ai Vision, which is designed to interpret urban environments.
This technology allows vehicles to drive freely from the steering wheel, even allowing drivers to take their eyes off the road. Helm.ai is currently in talks with various other car manufacturers to implement this self-driving technology on mass-produced vehicles.
Reporting from Reuters, Friday, June 20, Helm.ai is working with Honda, to integrate their technology into the upcoming series of electric vehicles Honda Zero (0) in 2026.
Vladislav Voroninski, CEO and founder of Helm.ai, revealed that the company's business model is licensing this software, including basic model software, to automakers.
The "vision-firm" approach promoted by the California startup is in line with Elon Musk's Tesla philosophy, which also relies on a camera-based system as the main sensor. This is in contrast to approaches that use alternative sensors such as lidar and radar, which tend to increase production costs. Nevertheless, Voroninski stated that Helm.ai also has a basic model compatible with other sensors, but its main focus remains on vision.

Industry experts argue that other sensors are critical to safety, as they can serve as backups for cameras known to have less than optimal performance in low visibility conditions. Robotaxi companies such as Alphabet's Waymo and Alphabet's May Mobility use radar, lidar, and camera combinations to understand their surrounding environment, stressing the importance of sensor redundancy.
To date, Helm.ai has managed to raise funding of 102 million US dollars, with investors including Goodyear Ventures, Korean automotatis spare parts manufacturer Sungwoo HiTech, and Amplo. This funding shows investor confidence in the potential of Helm.ai technology in the self-driving vehicle market.
Meanwhile, Helm.ai Vision's own way of working is to combine images from various cameras to create top display maps or "bird's-eye views", which significantly improves vehicle planning and control systems. The system has also been optimized for various hardware platforms from well-known manufacturers such as Nvidia and Qualcomm, enabling automakers to easily integrate Helm.ai Vision into their existing vehicle systems, including planning technology and predictions for the movement of their own vehicles.
