Higuain, LA Galaxy's Dream To Continue The Tradition Of Recruiting Star Players
JAKARTA - The LA Galaxy MLS (Major League Soccer) Club has a big dream. Coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto wants Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain's signature to continue the club's tradition of recruiting star players after David Beckham and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Higuain has appeared 26 times in Serie A this season, 16 of which have started. However, the future of the Argentine forward in Turin is still unclear.
The 32-year-old is under contract until the end of next season and accepting a move to MLS seems unlikely at the moment. On the other hand, Schelotto will be more than happy to bring his compatriot to the Galaxy.
"It will be a dream, we are talking about one of the best center-attackers in the world," Schelotto told Tuttosport, launching Football Italia, Saturday, April 18.
"But honestly, I had a hard time bringing him here immediately. I saw Gonzalo's interview where he said he wanted to stay at Juventus and in Europe. Maybe this (move) was too early for him, but never said never in football.
Currently, the Galaxy already has a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, namely Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez. But, about Higuain was completely different.
"In Higuain's case it will be a separate issue. It is a dream for the future, but it will not be easy. I know the whole Higuain family, his father Jorge and brother Federico," said former Boca Juniors forward with hope.
It did not stop there, Schelotto - who was still actively playing as a partner with Martin Palermo 's heart - was also interested in two other Juventus players, Blaise Matuidi and Sami Khedira.
"Top players like Khedira and Matuidi also caught our attention, even if making their possible signing impossible," he added.
"Given the health emergency we are in, we cannot know what will happen in the summer and what the transfer market will be like."
