Microsoft Will Lay Off Thousands Of Employees, Especially In The Sales Division

JAKARTA Microsoft plans to terminate employment (PHK) for thousands of employees, especially in the sales division. This was reported by Bloomberg News on Wednesday, June 18, citing sources familiar with the plan.

This move is part of Microsoft's efforts to streamline its workforce structure amid massive investments in artificial intelligence (AI). The layoffs follow a wave of previous layoffs in May 2025, which affected some 6,000 employees.

The tech giant continues to strengthen its position in the AI sector, along with the increasing number of companies from various industries competing to integrate AI technology into their products and services in order to maintain competitiveness.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy also stated on Tuesday 17 June that the implementation of a generating AI and AI agents will reduce the total number of corporate workers in the next few years.

Microsoft itself has planned a capital expenditure of 80 billion US dollars (around Rp1,306 trillion) for this fiscal year, with most of the funds focused on data center development to overcome the limited capacity of AI services.

According to reports, the announcement of layoffs will take place early next month, after the end of Microsoft's fiscal year. However, the report also adds that cuts will not only occur in the sales team, and the announcement time can still change.

Microsoft declined to comment on the report. As of June last year, Microsoft was recorded to have around 228,000 employees worldwide.
