South Sumatra Alerts For Forest And Land Fires Ahead Of The July 2025 Dry Season
SOUTH SUMATRA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has set a standby status for forest and land fires (karhutla) in South Sumatra Province (Sumsel) towards the end of June.
Head of the Emergency Handling Division of the South Sumatra Province BPBD, Sudirman, said that currently the standby status is just waiting for the signature from the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru.
"Just signing for that alert status, the rest of June 2025 has been declared alert for forest and land fires in South Sumatra," he said, confirmed on Thursday, June 19, which was confiscated by Antara.
According to him, based on coordination with BMKG, the dry season in South Sumatra will enter from July to November 2025.
In July, August, September, October, November, it was the dry season, although in some areas in South Sumatra it had started to rain in October, most of the areas were still in the dry season.

He added that after signing the forest and land fire alert status, his party prepared a strategy for handling or preventing forest and land fires in the South Sumatra region.
"We have set four posts. The posts are located on the border of the Palembang-Indralaya Toll Road, the border of Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) and Ogan Ilir (OI) Regencies," he said.
He added that other posts were made at the South Sumatra BPBD Office in coordination with the Fire Department for handling.
"Let's keep it together so that South Sumatra is free of forest, garden and land fires," he said.
