Meta Will Launch Passkey Support To Facebook On Mobile Devices

JAKARTA - Meta has finally introduced support for passkeys on Facebook and Messenger for mobile devices, as an additional tool to protect your privacy and security.

In its announcement, Meta revealed that passkeys will soon be available on iOS and Android devices for Facebook, and will be rolling out on Messenger in the next few months.

"Passkeys is a new way to verify identity and log into your account that is easier and safer than traditional passwords," the company said on its official blog.

Meta passkeys technology was developed by FIDO Alliance, an open industry association that focuses on reducing its dependence on passwords. Where Meta itself is an active member of the FIDO Alliance.

The tech giant also emphasizes that the fingerprints, facial scans, or PINs that you use to make passkeys will always be stored on your device, so Meta will never see, store, or share them with any party.

Passkey will not only be used to log in to Facebook. You can also use it to auto-fille payment information when shopping using Meta Pay, or to log in to Messenger.

To create a passkey, you can set and manage it through the Accounts Center in the Facebook Settings menu. There, you may be asked to set the passkey when logging in to Facebook.

Once set, you can use a passkey to log in to Facebook on your mobile device. However, you can still use other authentication methods such as passwords to access your account, for example if you are using a device that doesn't support passkeys.
