Beijin Considers The G7 Group To Manipulate Issues Related To China
JAKARTA - China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) accused the G7 group of again of manipulating China's related issues at their summit in Canada.
"The G7 summit is once again manipulating issues related to China," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun told a news conference in Beijing on Wednesday, June 18, reported by ANTARA.
The G7 meeting in Canada took place on June 15's 17 and was attended by seven permanent member countries namely Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the United States (US).
G7 leaders in their official statement called on China to refrain from market distortions and harmful overcapacity, address global challenges, and promote international peace and security.
They also raised serious concerns about China's deemed unstable activities in the East and South China Seas and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
"The G7 made irresponsible statements about Taiwan, the South China Sea and the East China Sea, which mistakenly accused China of 'overcapacity' and 'market distortion'," Guo said.
"This is interference in China's internal affairs and a violation of basic norms governing international relations."
Guo said China firmly opposed it and had lodged a strong protest against the relevant parties.
"The biggest factors that undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are separatist activities of 'Taiwan independence' and interference with external forces," he said.
If the G7 really cares about peace in the Taiwan Strait, Guo said, they must adhere to Chinese first principles, strongly oppose Taiwan's independence', and support China's reunification.
"Currently, the situation in the East China Sea and South China Sea is generally stable. The G7 must respect the joint efforts of countries in the region to resolve problems through dialogue and consultation and maintain peace and stability," he said.
Guo also asked the G7 to stop using maritime issues to sow disputes between countries in the region and increase regional tensions.
At the G7 summit, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen accused China of "distortion" in global trade for causing excess industrial capacity and excessive use of subsidies.
"What is referred to as the accusation of 'market distortion' and 'capacity excess' is not at all true," said Guo.
"The G7 uses it as an excuse for their trade protectionist practices, and basically to contain and suppress the progress of the Chinese industry as well as politicize and arm economic and trade issues."
