WhatsApp Insinuation, Signal Application Promises The Future Of Advertising Platforms

JAKARTA Meta has received criticism after announcing the launch of an advertisement on its messaging platform, WhatsApp. This situation was also exploited by Signal, a popular competitor platform in Europe and the US.

Signal President Juli Whittaker made a post on X that Signal would not do the same. He also invited WhatsApp users to switch to Signal because the platform would never present ads.

"Use Signal. We promise there will be no AI chaos, no surveillance ads, no matter what other industries do. We take the lead, we don't follow," saidlin. He also included news headlines related to WhatsApp that use user data for advertising.

Although it seems promising, many people doubt the promise in their comments column. However, not a few also supported Signal and said that Meta had destroyed WhatsApp with the presence of advertising.

Meta officially presents ads on WhatsApp on June 16, 2025, along with the launch of the Paid Channel. Through his personal channel, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also stated that both features were released as part of the Meta experiment.

According to Zuckerberg, the presence of advertisements in Status and Channels will help more people in business. The hope is that WhatsApp users can reach more markets and increase their income.

Ads will now be visible when users are opening Status, such as product and service ads. If users are interested, they will be directed to the contacts of their service provider by tapping the Send Message option at the bottom.

Advertising will also be visible in the Channel section with the Disponsored label. The channel with the label will be visible at the top when the user is opening the Channel Explor page.
