BRIN Emphasizes The Importance Of Collaboration In The Development Of The Space Ecosystem

JAKARTA The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) emphasized the importance of international collaboration, especially in Southeast Asia, in the space sector. This statement was made on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

BRIN's Executive Director of the Indonesia Space Agency, Erna Sri Adiningsih, said that Indonesia is currently pursuing a space business development strategy. That way, the Southeast Asia region will not only become a market, but also a service provider.

"This position not only makes Southeast Asia a market (market), but also as a provider of services (provider) in the space sector," Erna said while attending the ASEAN SCOSA Indonesia Side Event event, quoted on Wednesday, June 18.

The Southeast Asian region is currently experiencing rapid economic growth. Not only in the technology sector, but also in space. Therefore, Erna stated that Indonesia must be aware of the importance of this sector.

Awareness that needs to be improved is not only from the aspects of science and technology used, but also from the law, regulations, and others. If Indonesia ignores this sector, the development of space technology in the country will be left behind.

"Our daily life now relies heavily on space-based technology services," said Erna. "(The idea is) how to have a constellation of satellites for the ASEAN community for various additional applications."

In improving the space ecosystem, which includes science, technology, and human resource development (HR), Erna reminded again that collaboration is important to be carried out nationally and internationally.

Domestically, stakeholders from government agencies, academics, and private companies need to collaborate in building their ecosystems. In addition, this sector needs to be developed with a strong partnership between countries, especially in Southeast Asia.
