Menkum Please Singapore Accelerate Court Process Paulus Tannos

JAKARTA - Minister of Law (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas hopes that Singapore's official authority, namely the Attorney General's Chamber or Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) Singapore, can speed up the trial process for fugitives in corruption cases in the electronic identity procurement project (KTP-e) Paulus Tannos alias Thian Po Tjhin.

"The extradition process on behalf of Paulus Tannos from Singapore to Indonesia is starting to get a bright spot. Thus, we can immediately carry out extradition on behalf of Paulus Tannos," Supratman said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 17.

The preliminary hearing process in the first instance court or a commitment hearing on Tannos extradition is planned to take place in Singapore on June 23, 2025.

Therefore, Supratman underlined that the decision to reject the suspension of detention was a reflection of a form of commitment from the Singapore government to the implementation of the extradition agreement that had been mutually agreed upon.

He also felt grateful because the decision to reject the suspension of detention was the first step in relations between the two countries, especially in law enforcement.

"I invite all parties to support each other and of course we cannot intervene in the legal process in Singapore," he said.

Previously, the Indonesian government officially on February 22, 2025, made a request for extradition on behalf of Paulus Tannos. The request was a follow-up to the provisional request (PA) previously submitted by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) on December 18, 2018.

Furthermore, on January 17, 2025, Tannos was arrested by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), which has competence and authority in handling corruption in Singapore. Tannos responded to this by submitting a request for a suspension of detention, which was later rejected by the Singapore government.

As a follow-up on March 18, 2025, Singapore's Minister For Law issued a notification to Goodminton (High Court in Singapore), in response to requests for extradition from the Indonesian government.

Tannos extradition is the first case after the Indonesian government signed an extradition treaty with the Singapore government.

Meanwhile, Tannos is a fugitive from the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and has been on the wanted list since October 19, 2021.
