Say:Kou Serves Up Anime-Inspired Rock in Their Latest Release, K.a.R.M.A
JAKARTA - Tangerang-based alternative rock band Say:Kou has made a breakthrough with their latest single, "K.a.R.M.A." Released on June 13, this is their third single and one of the tracks leading up to their upcoming EP.
With "K.a.R.M.A," the band, fronted by Fauzy (vocals), Eko (guitar), Bima (guitar), Agung (bass), and Hanif (drums), invites listeners to navigate life's difficult times with joy.
"Essentially, this song was written for those who often feel disappointed by life, whether because of their own expectations or external factors, and are trying as hard as possible to change their fate," said the vocalist, known as Oji, in a press release received by VOI on June 14.
"As the foreigners say, 'dance the pain away,' that's what we're trying to convey through this song, both in terms of lyrics and arrangement. Our hope is that when people hear this song, they'll feel better, and that difficult times are just a phase of life, so just enjoy it and get through it," Hanif added.
"K.a.R.M.A," which was recorded in several locations, combines anime elements with rock sounds and synthesizer elements to create a unique atmosphere.
"In terms of composition and arrangement, we're leaning towards anime openings. Because we naturally love anime. So for this song, we're leaning towards that to make it catchier and make listeners feel relatable," said Bima.
Say:Kou (saiko) has been involved in the Japanese Rock (often called "Jejepangan"/J-Rock) music scene since mid-2015 and frequently performs at Japanese cultural festivals (matsuri) and other Japanese music events. During their nearly 10 years in the indie music industry, Say:Kou has undergone several personnel changes until finally settling on their current lineup and beginning work on original works in 2023.
"K.a.R.M.A" is available on various digital streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music. A lyric video is also available on YouTube.
