Three Climbers Killed By Lightning In The Alps

JAKARTA - Three climbers died from a lightning strike when a thunderstorm hit the Tyrol Alps, Austria.

A spokesman for the Alps police in the western Austrian city said it was likely that a husband and wife aged 60, and a 62-year-old brother, died from the same lightning strike.

Police said the rare incident occurred on Sunday afternoon as the three descended Mount Mittagsspitze near the village of Falirsch.

Rescue helicopters found their bodies near the footpath at an altitude of about 2,268 meters (7,440 feet).
