Jakarta's Largest Drug Market Will Be Reorganized, What's Up In Pramuka Market?
JAKARTA The Jakarta Center for Drug and Food Supervision (BBPOM) in collaboration with Perumda Pasar Jaya will rearrange Pramuka Market, East Jakarta. This step was taken to overcome the circulation of illegal drugs and increase traders' compliance with pharmaceutical regulations.
"It is planned this year. Currently, it is still in the physical development design process by Perumda Pasar Jaya, which will run in parallel with the plan to handle illegal drugs," said Head of BBPOM Jakarta, Sofiyani Chandrawati Anwar when contacted in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, July 15.
The arrangement will be carried out in stages, starting from the coordination between BBPOM and Pasar Jaya, socialization to traders, and the implementation of targeted group discussions (FGD) with stakeholders.
"The revitalization of the Scout Market is not only targeting infrastructure, but also a pharmaceutical service system in accordance with applicable regulations," continued Sofiyani.
Pramuka Market has been known as a drug sales center in Jakarta. However, the market is also suspected to be one of the main sources of the circulation of illegal drugs and substandards.
According to BBPOM, there are still many traders who do not understand the laws and regulations in the field of drugs. In addition, the pharmaceutical service system is considered not in accordance with the provisions, including in terms of licensing and managing pharmaceutical products.
The mode of selling illegal drugs in this market includes direct transactions at kiosks and from vehicles to vehicles, with products sources from unofficial distributors.
In 2016, BBPOM conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) at Pramuka Market and sealed seven kiosks after finding expired drugs, hard drugs without distribution permits, and products without official labels.
