'The Boy Hasn't Even 2 Years...' Tears Of Justice For Toddlers Of Murder Victims In Singkawang

SINGKAWANG - The Equatorial People's Legal Aid Institute (LBH Rakha) Singkawang urged law enforcement officials to give strict punishment for the perpetrators of the murder of a 11-month-old toddler in Singkawang City, West Kalimantan.

The head of LBH Rakha Singkawang, Roby Sanjaya, said that this case was not only a concern of the local community, but also caught the public's attention widely because it was considered a heart-sharing humanitarian tragedy.

"We appreciate the Singkawang Police and the West Kalimantan Police Resmob Team for their success in securing the alleged perpetrator. However, we also urge that the actual motive be disclosed openly and the investigation is carried out transparently," Roby said in his statement in Singkawang, Antara, Sunday, July 15.

LBH Rakha urged that the legal process run fairly and thoroughly, including opening up the possibility of the involvement of other parties.

"The handling of this case must consider the psychological aspects of the victim's family and a sense of justice in the community. We support the use of the most assertive criminal article because the perpetrator's actions are very heinous and inhumane," said Roby.

He also appealed to the public to increase awareness of children, especially toddlers, both in the home environment and in public places.

"Children are the most vulnerable group. They need maximum protection from all of us," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Singkawang Police, AKP Deddi Sitepu, said the alleged perpetrator with the initials UA alias AB had been secured in the Hong Kong Market area, Jalan Budi Utomo, Singkawang.

"The perpetrator immediately admitted his actions when he was arrested. He admitted to killing himself, using his bare hands," said Deddi.

According to Deddi, the victim's body was taken by the perpetrator using his bicycle. The arrests were made after the police analyzed CCTV footage from various location points and finally led to the UA.

The police also dismissed illegal accusations on social media that had accused the victim's caregiver of being the perpetrator.

"From the results of our investigation, there was no involvement of the caregiver. The sole perpetrator was UA alias AB, based on direct evidence and confession from the perpetrator," said Deddi asserted.
