Field Kian Menjamur, Kemenpora Will Encourage Padel As Social Sport
Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo encourages padel as a social sport that can further promote sports more widely, along with the growing popularity of the sport in big cities.
"We want sports to be no longer just physical activity, but also part of a daily culture that strengthens togetherness and fosters the spirit of sportsmanship," said Menpora Dito in his statement quoted in Jakarta, Sunday.
Pedel sports have grown quite fast in the past year with the proliferation of padel fields in several major cities. Based on searches from various sources, there are more than 50 padel fields spread across Jakarta.
Pedel fields have also sprung up in several other big cities in Indonesia. One of them is the Graha Padel Club in Surabaya which was recently inaugurated by Menpora Dito Ariotedjo, Saturday (14/6).
For the most part, the padel sports field is integrated with cafes and community gathering centers which are the attraction of exercising while socializing.
"This is not just a sports venue, but a space for young people to gather, network, and live a healthy life. Mentorship and communities like this are needed by the government," said the Menpora regarding the inauguration of the Graha Padel Club Surabaya.
Ease in the sport of padel that does not require special expertise also contributes to the appeal of many people, including women.
Although the style of play is similar to tennis and badminton, the padel is played more casually than the two types of rackets. Tennis players need the power to hit the ball, while badminton relies on reflexs and speed in their game.
