Viktor Gyokeres Criticizes Fake Reports About Rails With Sporting

JAKARTA - Arsenal and Manchester United's target, Viktor Gyokeres, said that he would discuss his future when the time was right. He also criticized reports of ongoing rifts between himself and his club, Sporting CP.

The Swedish international footballer has become one of Europe's most coveted strikers.

He has scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting CP since his arrival in July 2023 from Coventry City.

Under the contract with Sporting until June 2028 which includes a release clause of 100 million euros, Gyokeres is expected to leave the Lisbon club this summer.

"There's been a lot of talk right now, most of it's not true. I'll be talking when the time is right," wrote a 27-year-old on Instagram.

Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas confirmed this week that his club had yet to accept any offer for Gyokeres, but they would only consider an offer of at least 80 million euros.

"We know Viktor's dream is to go to the club where he can fight for the Champions League. We have common sense. We guarantee that we will not demand 100 million euros," said Frederico Varandas' statement.

Gyokeres are reportedly upset with Sporting CP for believing they have canceled an agreement to allow it to move for 60 million euros plus 10 million euros in addition -- much lower than its release clause of 100 million euros.

Meanwhile, Varandas said Gyokeres agents used dirty tactics in an attempt to force the club to sell the player.

"The advice his agent plays only makes the situation worse. Threats, extortion, and insults don't work for me," said Varandas.

Gyokeres scored 39 goals in just 33 league games for Sporting in the 2024/2025 season as they beat rival Benfica to win the Primeira title of the Portuguese League in the final game of the season.

Sporting also beat Benfica to win the Portuguese Cup. The Swedish player finished the season with 54 goals in all competitions, including a stunning hat trick against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Gyokeres also became UEFA Nations League's top scorer with nine goals, one goal ahead of Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.
