Border Patrols Will Be Present At The 2025 Club World Cup As A Routine

JAKARTA - US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said it routinely provides security at major sporting events in response to questions about the institution's presence at the 2025 Club World Cup amid President Donald Trump's crackdown on immigration.

"US Customs and Border Protection is committed to working with our local and federal partners to ensure the 2025 Club World Cup is safe for everyone involved."

"It's like we do at every major sporting event, including the Super Bowl. Our mission remains unchanged," the agency said on Thursday, June 12, 2025, local time, in response to questions by The Associated Press.

The agency has previously removed social media posts saying its officers will be 'wearable clothes' for the opening match of the 2025 Club World Cup this weekend.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino responded to questions about CBP's involvement during an earlier event this week promoting the opening match on Sunday, June 15, 2025 WIB, between Inter Miami vs Al Ahly at Hard Rock Stadium at Miami Gardens, Florida.

"No, I don't have any worries about anything in the sense that we've been paying attention to every security question."

"Of course, the most important thing for us is to ensure security for all supporters who come to the match. This is our priority," said Infantino.

Border Patrol Agents are routinely called up to assist security for major events, including the Super Bowl.

They handle things, such as checking cargo deliveries to stadiums for dangerous materials and contributing to emergency planning.

In the 2024 Copa America final at Hard Rock Stadium, a crowd of supporters broke through the security gate and forced the match to be postponed.

Officials for Miami-Dade County said the lack of intelligence gathering, inadequate security perimeters, and large numbers of supporters who did not have tickets in the stadium area caused the chaos.

"Like all stadium events, Hard Rock Stadium officials cooperate with local law enforcement agencies and event organizers to establish and enforce security protocols based on the unique needs of each event,"

"For the 2025 Club World Cup, supporters must pass several security checkpoints and tickets to enter Hard Rock Stadium."

"All supporters will also be scanned for tickets when entering the location. Ensuring the safety of fans continues to be a top priority for all events at the stadium," Hard Rock Stadium said in a statement to ESPN this week about the 2025 Club World Cup security plan.

FIFA also said there had been close cooperation with several institutions.

"The safety of supporters and participants is the most important thing we do to ensure a positive and memorable experience for everyone."

"In line with previous FIFA tournaments, our safety and security teams have planned and worked closely with stadium officials, local, regional, tribal, state and federal agencies to ensure a strong security presence."

"Not only for the opening match at Hard Rock Stadium, but also at all venues for the 2025 Club World Cup," read FIFA's statement.

The opening match of the 2025 Club World Cup took place amid protests by several cities over actions by US Immigration and Customs agents.

The 2025 Club World Cup features 32 teams from around the world playing in 11 cities as of July 13, 2025.
