Ukraine Receives Body Of 1,200 Soldiers Killed In War With Russia

JAKARTA - Ukraine received the bodies of 1,200 Ukrainian soldiers killed in the war with Russia as part of an agreement to exchange prisoners of war and those killed.

"According to the Russian side, the body belongs to Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel," the coordination committee for the prisoner swap said.

Experts will conduct an identification test on the bodies received.

The committee released images of people wearing white protective clothing with the International Cross Committee logo at an undisclosed location, standing and walking near a train carriage.

Earlier this week, Ukraine repatriated 1,212 bodies of its soldiers who died in the war that began with a massive Russian invasion in February 2022.

Kyiv and Moscow agreed to hand over as many as 6,000 bodies each and exchange sick and seriously injured prisoners of war as well as those under 25.

Ukraine and Russia have made three exchanges of prisoners of war this week but did not disclose the exact number.
