Don't Just Brush It, This Is The Right Way To Take Care Of Dental Health
JAKARTA- Maintaining dental health is not only about the appearance of attractive smiles, but also an important part of maintaining overall body health.
The mouth is the main entrance to the digestive system, and if it is not treated properly, various disorders such as cavities, bloody gums, to infections can occur and affect a person's quality of life.
In a health discussion, Dr. R. Jarvi A. Safitri, Sp.KG, A Dental Conservation Specialist from the Bakti Pajajaran Hospital (Cibinong), explained the importance of appropriate teething techniques and the wise use of mouthwash medicine to prevent tooth damage.
"Even if you brush your teeth five times a day, if the technique is wrong, it will still not be effective," he said, as quoted by ANTARA.
He suggested that brushing teeth be done twice a day, namely after breakfast and before bed at night. For the best results, when brushing teeth in the morning should be about 30 minutes to an hour after breakfast, not before eating.
"Many people have a habit of brushing their teeth before breakfast, whereas ideally after, so the rest of the food doesn't stick all day long," he added.
At night, keeping your mouth clean before bed is very important. He highlighted the habits of some adults who ignore oral hygiene after snacking at night. This, according to him, needs to be improved because uncleaned food residue can cause acid to form that erodes the dental layer.

Furthermore, drg. Safitri explained that brushing your teeth too often or too hard can actually have a bad impact. Overwhelmed gestures from brushes can cause abrasion or thickening of the surface of your teeth. This has the potential to make teeth sensitive and even damaged.
Not only brushing teeth, but he also recommends regular inspection and cleaning of dental corals (scaling) every six months. According to him, this procedure is important to lift plaques that are already hardening and difficult to clean with ordinary brushes, while preventing problems such as bleeding gums.
Regarding the use of mouthwash, drg. Safitri reminded not to use it excessively.
"Curmer medicine can indeed help refresh the mouth or relieve irritation, but its use should be limited to certain needs and within a maximum period of two weeks," he explained.
He added that most mouthwashing drugs contain alcohol which can cause side effects in the form of dry mouth if used too often.
"When saliva production decreases, the natural ability of the oral cavity to clean oneself also decreases. This opens up opportunities for bacteria to develop and trigger infection or irritation," he explained.
Through maintaining a healthy lifestyle, brushing teeth with the right technique, and using mouth care products wisely, the public can prevent various dental health problems from an early age.
Simple treatments carried out consistently can have a major impact on the hygiene and health of the oral cavity in the long term.
