Nadiem Makarim: COVID-19 Pandemic Pushes Teachers Out Of Their Comfort Zones

JAKARTA - Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Anwar Makarim said that the pandemic is pushing teachers out of their comfort zone.

"Teachers have been forced out of their comfort zones so far and learn new platforms, and understand the power of this new platform provides learning," said Minister of Education and Technology in the International Webinar By 7 SEAMEO Centers of Indonesia, in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, May 4.

He added that the pandemic has also made parents participate in children's education.

"So far, we have never seen any parents open the textbook and understand the curriculum. I think this is a very positive thing besides the level of stress caused by this distance learning," he said.

He said the use of technology between teachers, parents, and students is something that has never been seen before.

"The triangular collaboration will create other new opportunities to increase learning participation," he said.

Currently, according to Nadiem, Indonesia must be able to remove technology gaps throughout the country and provide equitable internet access for the development of the world of education in Indonesia.

"And the most important thing to improve learning outcomes is the technology for teachers," said Nadiem.

According to him, technology for teachers can reduce teachers' time in manual assignments and focus on thinking time and collaboration with other teachers to create more effective learning.

"Technology for teachers will have a huge influence on the quality of education in the future. Technology for teachers can also create special assignments for each student," he said.
