In The Aftermath Of Passengers Losing Their Cellphones, Garuda Indonesia Establishes Coordination With The Police

JAKARTA - PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk is coordinating with the Indonesian National Police to support thorough investigative steps by the authorities as a follow-up to reports of lost cellphones of one of the passengers.

The passenger lost a cell phone on the GA 716 flight on the Jakarta 'Melbourne route on June 6, 2025.

Garuda Indonesia Commercial Director Ade R Susardi said that this initiative was taken as an effort to provide legal certainty for all interested parties.

"This step is also a manifestation of Garuda Indonesia's commitment to ensuring that the handling of this report runs objectively, transparently, and based on data that can be legally accounted for," he said in an official statement, Thursday, June 12.

Even so, Ade emphasized that Garuda Indonesia continues to impose release of the cabin crew on duty on the flight.

"We also continue to establish intensive communication with the passenger concerned," he said.

For this reason, continued Ade, Garuda Indonesia invites all parties to respect the ongoing legal process, in order to achieve the best solution for all stakeholders.

"And it does not cause confusion of information in public spaces," he said.

For your information, a video of a Garuda Indonesia passenger named Michael Tjendara claiming to have lost a cell phone on the GA 716 flight on the Jakarta-Melbourne route has gone viral on social media.

The video went viral because he said that he had tracked the cellphone's whereabouts through an application, his cellphone was seen in a hotel that was irradiated by the Garuda crew, before it was finally detected that it was dumped in a river around the hotel.
