PBNU Chairman Affirms Never Recommended The Position Of Commissioner Of PT Gag Nickel

JAKARTA - The Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board emphasized that it has never recommended the position of commissioner to individuals, both members and administrators, to occupy certain positions in the company, including PT GagNickel.

This was conveyed by PBNU General Chair Yahya Cholil Staquf in response to the position of Chairman of PBNU for Religious Affairs, KH Ahmad Fahrur Rozi as a member of the Board of Commissioners of PT Gag Nickel, a nickel mining company in Raja Ampat, Southwest Papua.

"PBNU has never given recommendations for positions to individuals, including commissioners. If there are PBNU administrators who do business or take office outside, it is a personal matter, not on behalf of the organization," Yahya said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 12.

He emphasized that many PBNU ranks have run businesses, but that is entirely the authority outside the organization. So far, PBNU only provides recommendations for schools.

"So basically, if the personal matter from the management asks the person concerned, PBNU has never issued any recommendations regarding any position, there is not a single PBNU recommendation letter for any position anywhere, there are recommendations for schools, for those who want to go to school, we ask for PBNU recommendations, we give recommendations," he explained.

Previously, Ahmad Fahrur Rozi had clarified his position as a member of the Board of Commissioners of PT Gag Nickel as a personal matter and not related to the PBNU organization.

He also emphasized that Gag Island is not a tourist destination, but an area with an official mining business license managed under PT Gag Nickel. The mining location is about 40 km from Piaynemo, or the location of Raja Ampat tourist destination.

The government has also officially revoked the Mining Business License (IUP) of four companies in the Raja Ampat area on Tuesday (10/6). The four companies are PT Anugerah Surya Pratama, PT Nurham, PT Mulia Raymond Perkasa, and PT Kawei Sejahtera Mining.

The IUP revocation was carried out because four companies were proven to have violated environmental provisions, as well as geopark areas or earth parks.
