Many Criticized, Wikipedia Stops Trial Feature Summary Of AI
JAKARTA Wikipedia introduced a tool to summarize articles on its platform in early June. The tool is still in the testing phase, but was eventually stopped due to refusal from editors.
Reporting from the 404 Media report, the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based experimental feature on Wikipedia has received a lot of criticism, including from editors on the platform. Many are concerned about Wikipedia's breakdown of credibility.
Therefore, not a few have rejected the trial of their features and have requested that the experiment be stopped. Wikipedia's internal upload regarding the AI-based summary feature experiment was also met with rejection comments.
"Just because Google has launched its AI summary, that doesn't mean we need to outperform it. I sincerely ask you not to test it, on mobile devices or anywhere else," an editor said in the announcement.

The editor stressed the losses they would face, including the Wikimedia Foundation. According to him, the presence of this summary feature has indirectly 'insulted the intelligence of the readers'.
"This will cause immediate and inevitable harm to our readers and our reputation as a fairly trusted and serious source," the editor said anonymously.
It is not yet known whether this feature will be permanently suspended. However, Wikipedia appears to be still interested in using AI-based summary features, at least for the expansion of accessibility.
