PLN Icon Plus Holds Zero Waste Warrior Activities

JAKARTA - Commemorating World Environment Day which falls on June 5, 2025, PLN Icon Plus, a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero) held an activity entitled Zero Waste Warrior or ZWW.

President Director of PLN Icon Plus, Ari Rahmat Indra Cahyadi, said that ZWW activities include various programs such as Clean Up and Green Action and Bottle Up. The activity will be carried out in stages by employees in various work areas of PLN Icon Plus in Indonesia.

In the Bottle Up Program (collecting bottles, glasses and plastic waste to be handed over to the waste bank), 5,553 kg of strategic business units or SBU Jakban were won, followed by 2,196 kg of West Java SBU and 1,719 kg of SBU Sumbagsel.

"PLN Icon Plus continues to strive to become a company that is not only superior in business, but also responsible for the environment. Activities such as Bottle Up are a tangible form of PLN Icon Plus's commitment to support sustainable development," said Ari in Jakarta, Thursday, June 12.

PLN Icon Plus Corporate Secretary, Heni Utari Ambarwati added that the company actively invites people around the network area to actively care about the environment by participating in the waste exchange program with the internet.

Currently, a pilot project for exchanging plastic waste with the internet has been carried out in Krukut Village, Limo District, Depok City. There are already more than 11 families (out of 28 registrants) who are connected to the Iconnet network in Krukut and 11 families in Pandan Wangi. New customers of Iconnet broadband internet service who usually pay around Rp. 200 thousand for internet speeds of up to 35 Mbps per month, just pay half after participating in this waste exchange program.

"So in Limo and Krukut there is the most in Depok. Some of the waste balancers are done even daily, not weekly. On average, 5,000 kg of waste per family can be collected per family or around 150,000 kg. So the proceeds from the sale of waste are around Rp. 30 thousand per day or Rp. 99 thousand per month," explained Heni.

In the early stages of this pilot project, the company collaborated with other subholdings including PLN IP, NP, EPI targeting 600 families or new customers through the waste exchange program, especially those located close to the substation.

"We are targeting more new customers. 600 families first. Meanwhile, it is not too expansionary to adjust the condition of our network because there is something that must be invested, right," said Heni.

According to Heni, the company will not talk about entering a crowded area or being bored with the large number of providers. In addition to avoiding tariff wars, it will be more efficient for the company to maximize the electricity pole and submarine cable networks that have been built in various regions.

Currently, Iconnet has reached 353 regencies and cities, and serves 12,740 villages.

"Currently, the number of our customers is around 1.2 million. So we will not compete in areas that already have providers. Instead, to areas where no provider has entered. Areas outside the coast such as islands during that time there is a PLN submarine cable, we enter. Lepar Island, Buluh Island Batam is 100 percent of us. We are still combing similar islands. Because if other providers are expensive there, the investment is, if we automatically live," said Heni.

In addition to actively cooperating with various partners, the company also cooperates with APKASI to digitize and increase the connectivity of all regencies in Indonesia. PLN Icon Plus also continues to control rogue internet cable users. All of this is so that penetration into the market is more intensive and the target number of users of more than 1.4 million by 2025 is achieved.

"Now it's actually the use of the control network. The classic issue of broadband internet providers is RT WT net. Even though they are allowed to buy from us logs, we don't know if they will be distributed (sold) again. Even though in the Electricity Law, it's just for use itself, not for sale," said Heni.
