Russia And Ukraine To Start Exchange War Prisoners Injured Today

JAKARTA - Russia and Ukraine will start an emergency medical exchange for prisoners of war who were seriously injured on Thursday, said Russian aide and chief Russian delegation to negotiate with Ukraine, Vladimir Medinsky.

"Tomorrow (today) we will also start an emergency sanitation exchange for prisoners who are seriously injured from the front lines," he wrote on Telegram, quoted by TASS June 12.

Russia and Ukraine reached a humanitarian agreement on June 2, which included exchanges of prisoners of war from among injured, seriously ill, and people under 25 years of age, as well as the transfer of more than 6,000 people killed to Ukraine.

On June 7, Ukraine unexpectedly postponed "both the reception of bodies and the exchange of prisoners of war," Medinsky said.

The first group of Russian soldiers under 25 years of age was repatriated on Monday, June 9. The plane carrying a group of second soldiers arrived in Russia on June 10.

All fighters who are repatriated will undergo treatment and recovery at the Ministry of Defense's medical institution.

In return, a number of similar Ukrainian prisoners of war were transferred to Kyiv at both times, the Russian Ministry of Defense said.
