The Indonesian National Team Gets Securities From Defeat Against Japan

JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian National Team (Timnas), Patrick Kluivert, emphasized that his team will learn from the 0-6 defeat against Japan at the Suita Stadium, Osaka Prefecture, Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Kluivert wants to make the defeat in the closing match of Group C of the Third Round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers a valuable lesson to prepare the team as well as possible for the Fourth Round which will be played in October 2025.

"We need to learn from this situation. I think this is a very important learning moment, individually, as a coach, but also as a team," Kluiver said at a press conference after the match.

Not only winning, Japan was also very dominant throughout the match. According to the static of Sofascore, the Blue Samurai recorded 71 percent possession, releasing 22 total shots, 10 of which became a great opportunity.

Japan's dominance made Indonesia unable to do anything for 90 minutes of the match.

Garuda's squad was forced to not be able to release a single shot after only controlling 29 percent of the ball. Indonesia could also lose more if their goalkeeper Emil Audero did not make four brilliant saves.

"I think they deserve to win. Once again, we respect Japan. There are many qualities. Japan started very well."

"In individual terms, they have a lot of quality players. As a team too. They dominate the game."

"That's an honest thing. Everyone sees the game. We need to respect that. We need to learn from this. That's the most important thing," said the Dutch coach.

This is Indonesia's third defeat to Japan since 2024. From those three matches, Indonesia conceded 13 times and was only able to score one goal through Sandy Walsh when the Garuda Squad lost 1-3 in the 2023 Asian Cup in January 2024.

Meanwhile, this is the second defeat for Kluiver from four matches while dealing with Indonesia.

The two defeats were defeats with a landslide score. Before being defeated by Japan, Indonesia was defeated by Australia 1-5 in Sydney.
