Snap Will Launch AR Specs Smart Glasses In 2026

JAKARTA Snap, the company that develops the Snapchat platform, will launch augmented Reality (AR) smart glasses. The company plans to sell its device under the name Specs.

The launch plan was unveiled directly by Snap CEO Evan Spiegel while attending the Augmented World Expo event in California. Specs is expected to be available to consumers starting next year.

Reporting from TechCrunch, these glasses will be equipped with various AR and Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities. Snap will add a number of capabilities that can be found in Spectacles 5, smart glasses designed for developers.

Although its capabilities are mostly taken from Spectacles 5, Specs will have a lighter weight and a smaller size. The size of these glasses is deliberately made more ideal so that they can be used in public places safely and comfortably.

Snap reportedly added see-through lenses. The lens can project a display in front of its users. In addition, Specs will also get AI-powered assistants such as Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

This AI assistant is supported by Snap technology that can process audio and videos. To support the various advanced features in it, Specs will run a developer ecosystem called SnapOS by SnapOS.

The price of the AR device is not yet known. Snap also has not revealed some details of its latest smart glasses, so it is not yet certain what the plans for its sale will be.
