Revoke Nickel 4 Mining Permits In Raja Ampat, Minister Of State Secretary: Processes Have Started Since Early 2025

The government of the Republic of Indonesia under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto has officially revoked the mining business license (IUP) belonging to four nickel mining companies operating in Raja Ampat Regency, Southwest Papua.

Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi stated that this revocation was part of the government's commitment to preserving the environment and strengthening the governance of natural resources nationally.

He emphasized that this policy was not sudden, but was a continuation of the strategic program which had been started since the beginning of 2025.

"You need to know that since January, the government has issued a Presidential Regulation regarding controlling forest areas. It includes natural resource-based businesses, one of which is mining businesses," Prasetyo said at a press conference in Jakarta, Monday, June 9.

He explained that the revocation of the IUP in Raja Ampat was part of the implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 5 of 2025 concerning Forest Area Control, which was signed by President Prabowo in January.

"Concerning to what is now being discussed by the public, namely the Mining Business License in Raja Ampat Regency, it is one part of the entire control process being carried out by the government," he explained.

The decision was taken after the President chaired a limited meeting with the relevant ministries, such as the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

The meeting was also attended by a data verification process and a direct review of the field to ensure the validity of the information.

"Yesterday, the President chaired a limited meeting, one of which discussed mining business permits in Raja Ampat Regency. On his instructions, the government decided to revoke mining business permits for four companies in the region," said Prasetyo.

He also expressed his appreciation to the public, especially social media activists, who actively provide input and information to the government. According to him, public participation is a positive energy in the policy-making process based on data and real conditions in the field.

"We represent the government to thank the entire community, especially social media activists who continue to provide input and information. Public concern like this is very important in supporting the right decision-making," he said.

At the end of his statement, Prasetyo appealed to the public to remain critical in responding to various information and ensuring the accuracy of the data received.

"We all have to be critical and vigilant in receiving public information. It is important to always look for objective truth in the field before drawing conclusions," he concluded.
