President Prabowo Revokes 4 Nickel Mining Permits In Raja Ampat
JAKARTA - President Prabowo gave firm directions to revoke four nickel Mining Business Permits (IUP) in the Raja Ampat area. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia announced the decision at the State Palace in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 10.
Previously, Bahlil conducted direct field inspections and held cross-ministerial coordination meetings. This is the government's effort to preserve the environment and legal compliance in national mining activities.
Of the five companies that have permits in the region, only PT Gag Nickel meets all technical and legal requirements, including the 2025 Work Plan and Budget (RKAB).
It is known, PT GAG has been conducting explorations since 1972 and carrying out operational activities outside the Raja Ampat Geopark area. According to Bahlil, the revocation of the four nickel mining business permits was not carried out after it went viral regarding conditions in Raja Ampat as narrated on social media.
Before it went viral, President Prabowo Subianto said Bahlil had directed to curb forest areas through Presidential Decree No. 5 of 2025.
