Damai Cartenz Had a Gunfight in Maima Jayawijaya, 1 KKB Member Carrying Marijuana Dies
JAKARTA - The Damai Cartenz Task Force had a gunfight with an armed criminal group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya around Maima, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Pegunungan on Monday night, June 9.
Head of the Cartenz Peace Task Force Senior Commissioner Gusti Gde Era Adhinata said the gunfight resulted in the death of one KKB member.
"The KKB member who died was PG, who was close to Egianus Kogoya," he said, Tuesday, June 10, as quoted by Antara.
Senior Commissioner Era said the gunfight began when members of the Cartenz Peace Task Force were on patrol anticipating security disturbances after threats from Egianus Kogoya's KKB circulated.
While on patrol, gunshots were heard and a gunfight ensued. PG was later found in a ravine.
During the evacuation, a package of marijuana, a cellphone, and a handy talky (HT) were secured from PG's body. PG himself had been arrested in connection with a marijuana case.
"In addition, a cellphone (HP) was also found around the crime scene which is believed to belong to Egianus Kogoya," said Senior Commissioner Era.
He added that currently all personnel of the Cartenz Peace Task Force are asked to be alert and ready to anticipate retaliatory attacks.
Before the incident in Maima, he continued, the Cartenz Peace Task Force was also involved in a gunfight with the KKB in Pugima.
"PG's body is currently still at the Wamena Regional Hospital," he said.
