Indonesia Offered To Host Sudirman Cup And Thomas & Uber
JAKARTA Indonesia received an offer to host the 2027 Sudirman Cup and 2028 Thomas & Uber Cup from the President of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Khunying Pamama Leeswadtrakul.
This offer was made after Khunying with the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora), Dito Ariotedjo, conducted a direct review of the Indonesia Arena facilities on the sidelines of the Indonesia Open 2025 on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
Dito positively welcomed the offer and at the same time stated that he would immediately discuss further with relevant stakeholders, both at the government level and national sports associations.

"This is a great opportunity to show Indonesia's capacity as a center for world sports, especially badminton which is indeed a sport for the pride of the nation," said Dito.
Indonesia has never hosted another Sudirman Cup since its first edition in 1989 in Jakarta. At that time, Indonesia came out as the champion after beating South Korea in the final.
It was the only Indonesian title in the history of the tournament. China has so far dominated the Sudirman Cup with a total of 14 titles after their last two editions won at home.
As for Thomas & Uber, the last time Indonesia hosted in 2008. At that time, the Uber team managed to reach the final, but lost against China.
Meanwhile, Thomas' team returned home in the semifinals. They lifted the suitcase after failing to stem South Korea, which then lost in the final round against China.
