India Reports 6,000 Active Cases Of COVID-19 And 65 Deaths In 2025

India's active Covid-19 cases have surpassed 6,000, with six deaths reported in the past 24 hours, according to data from India's Ministry of Health released on Sunday, June 8, 2025.

Reporting from the Times of India page, as many as 769 new infections were reported in the last 48 hours, with Kerala state becoming the most affected region. After that followed by Gujarat, West Bengal, and Delhi. Currently, India has 6,133 active cases of Covid-19.

Health officials stated that most of the recorded cases were mild and patients underwent treatment at home.

Since January, there have been 65 deaths related to Covid-19 across India. As of May 22, the number of active national cases was at 257.

Official sources state that the supervisory team at the state and district levels, under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program, is actively monitoring cases of Influenza-like Disease (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI).

"Testing is recommended for all SARI patients who are treated and 5 percent of ILI cases according to guidelines, and positive SARI samples are sent for Whole Genome Sequencing analysis through the VRDL ICMR network," said the official source quoted by PTI.

The technical review meeting was held on June 2 and June 3, chaired by Sunita Sharma, Director General of Health Services to evaluate the current situation and preparedness efforts that have been made.
