Brazilian Investors Help Indonesia Buy Beef From Sigi

JAKARTA - Minister of Transmigration (Mentrans) Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara ensured that investors from abroad could help Indonesia as a buyer at the end of beef, especially from Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi.

"The reason I visited Sigi Regency was because I had met cattle investors from Brazil who wanted to help Indonesia because the need for cattle for our country was still in deficit and some were still importing beef," Iftitah said quoting Antara.

He said that currently the central government still needs two million hectares of land for livestock development.

"So this Brazilian investor is not only helping farmers to develop cattle but also as off takers or end buyers," he said.

He said that one of the obstacles to developing cattle in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi was because there were no permanent buyers of cattle.

"We found the fact that these breeders in the transmigration area are one of our shortcomings is off taker or buyer guarantor, so that is what we will try to help later to buy the cows through this Brazilian investor," he said.

According to him, the purchase of cattle only increases during Eid al-Adha momentum.

"So it is still very traditional here regarding the sale of cattle because during the sacrifice alone there is a lot of demand, such as in this transmigration area there are 107 cows and those purchased when this year's sacrifice reached more than 100," he said.

Iftitah said that in the future, Brazilian investors as off takers for cattle buyers could increase their selling capacity.
