Israel Reveals Tunnel Under Gaza's European Hospital, Claims To Find The Body Of Hamas Sinwar Commander
JAKARTA - The Israeli military (IDF) on Sunday said it had found the body of a military commander of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, as they uncovered the presence of underground tunnels under hospitals in southern Gaza.
IDF spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin said his party also found the body of senior Hamas leader and Brigade Commander Raffah Mohammad Shabana and a number of other militants who were still being identified.
Israeli forces gave a tour to a small group of foreign journalists in a tunnel that had been found under the European Hospital in Khan Younis, which Brigadier General Defrin said was the main command and control complex for Hamas.
"This is another example of the use of cynics by Hamas, using civilians as human shields, using civilian infrastructure, hospitals, again and again," Brigadier General Defrin said.
Meanwhile, the IDF and the Shin Bet security agency confirmed the body of military commander Hamas Mohammed Sinwar in a tunnel under the European Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
In addition to Sinwar's body, a number of Hamas members were also found in the tunnel, said the IDF and Shin Bet, quoted from The Times of Israel.
"We found it under the hospital, just below the emergency room, a complex with several rooms. In one of those rooms we found, we killed Mohammed Sinwar," said Brigadier General Defrin.
Brigadier General Defrin explained that his party planned an attack near the European Hospital carefully so as not to damage it.
A large ditch excavated in front of the entrance to the Emergency Room leads to a hole in a overcrowded concrete tunnel, which is used as a hiding place by Hamas fighters, the army said.
During a search at the site, Israeli forces found supplies of weapons, ammunition, cash, and documents that are currently being reviewed to determine their intelligence values.
"We will dissolve Hamas because we cannot live with this terror organization right in our backyard, just across our borders," said Brigadier General Defrin.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Sinwar's death last month. Brigadier General Defrin said they now have his DNA proving without a doubt that it was him.

Separately, the Hamas group has not commented on Sinwar or Shabana's death report.
Sinwar is Yahya Sinwar's younger brother, the leader of the Palestinian militant group who was killed in the Israeli attack.
Shabana is one of the most senior and experienced Hamas commanders in combat in southern Gaza. He played a major role in building a network of tunnels under the southern city of Rafah, which was used for ambushes and cross-border attacks.
