Grief Of Eid Al-Adha, Death Toll In Gaza Is Nearly 54,800 People

JAKARTA - The death toll from Israeli military attacks in the Gaza Strip continues to escalate dramatically, sparking global concern over the humanitarian crisis that has not shown any signs of easing.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health revealed that since the conflict heated up again in October 2023, at least 54,772 Palestinians have lost their lives due to aggression categorized as genocide by a number of international observers.

In an official release on Saturday, health authorities in Gaza reported as many as 95 bodies were successfully evacuated to the hospital in just the last two days. In addition, 304 residents were reportedly injured, bringing the total number of injured victims as a result of the Israeli attack to have touched 125,834 people.

There are still many victims who have not been evacuated because they are buried in ruins of buildings or lying on the streets. Security conditions and access limitations make it difficult for rescue teams to reach these locations," read a statement from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, as quoted by ANTARA.

Since Israel again intensified attacks on March 18, 2025 and scrapped a ceasefire deal and a prisoner swap that had been going on since January, the number of casualties has continued to soar. The latest attack has reportedly killed 4,497 people and left 13,793 injured.

This gross violation of international humanitarian law has attracted the attention of international judicial institutions.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Both are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the conflict in Gaza.

In addition, Israel is also facing a lawsuit over alleged genocide in the International Court (ICJ), related to systematic violence against civilians in Gaza who are deemed to have violated the UN Genocide Convention.
