Popularity And Electability Become PDIP's PR If You Want To Carry Out Pramono Anung In 2029

JAKARTA UI political observer, Cecep Hidayat assessed that the long experience as a member of the legislature and executive is one of the capital of DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to be elected by PDIP as a candidate for president or vice president in the upcoming 2029 presidential election.

"He has the capital to become a candidate. As governor of DKI Jakarta, he will be highlighted by the media. In addition, he is a PDIP politician who has very long experience in the DPR RI and executives," he said, Sunday, June 8, 2025.

As is known, recently the name Pramono Anung has often been compared with the Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, as a candidate for presidential or vice presidential candidate in the 2029 presidential election.

Although not as popular as Dedi on social media, Pramono is considered to have an advantage considering that DKI Jakarta is still a barometer of national politics.

According to Cecep, apart from being a technocrat, Pramono is also considered good at practical politics. He gave an example, when PDIP was involved in a conflict with Joko Widodo because of differences in choice in the 2024 presidential election, Pramono was still able to maintain his position as Cabinet Secretary.

Pramono is close to PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and other national political figures. If his electability is good ahead of the 2024 presidential election, Megawati has the potential to approve Pramono to come forward," he added.

The problem, continued Cecep, is that Pramono is not as popular as the other governors in Java.

The recent Indonesian Political Indicators Survey shows that many DKI residents do not even know about the programs Pramono is currently running.

The library operating hours extension program in Jakarta, for example, is only known to 64.5 percent of respondents.

In addition, in general, the level of satisfaction between DKI residents with Pramono's performance is only around 60 percent, while in West Java the level of citizen satisfaction with Dedi reaches 95 percent.

In popularity, Pramono is still less than the other governors in Java. In fact, he leads Jakarta, which is still a national political barometer," continued Cecep.

He revealed that Pramono needed long preparations if he was serious about competing in the 2029 presidential election.

One of them is to consider forming a volunteer group that supports Pramono as a candidate for the 2029 presidential election.

Pramono is currently very visible to the technocratic side. This is not wrong and there are some people who like the technocratic side of Pramono. But, reflecting on yesterday's Indonesian Political Indicators survey, Pramono Anung has not yet raised a populist side, "explained Cecep.
