PKS Encourages Election Bill To Be Completed This Year, For More Mature Preparation Ahead Of 2029

JAKARTA - The discussion of the Draft Law on General Elections (Pemilu) is encouraged by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) to be completed this year so that in the following years all parties can focus on preparing for the 2029 General Election.

PKS President Al Muzzammil Yusuf said that if the discussion of the Election Bill was carried out at a moment that was too close to preparing for the 2029 General Election, the discussion would be too pragmatic.

"From the start, this is still very far away and the preparation of the General Election Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) will be even better," said Muzzammil in a press conference in Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, June 7.

He admitted that he wanted election conditions and election data in 2029 not like the 2024 General Election, where there had been a commotion at the KPU.

Muzzammil also said that he had been involved in discussing the Election Law in the previous House of Representatives (DPR) for three terms, namely 2004, 2009, and 2014, which involved all the factions and the best people.

Therefore, if there will be another discussion of the Election Bill, he wants the involvement of the best people, and even a special committee (special committee) can be formed, with the involvement of all components, including experts, in it.

"So I don't want to talk about partial, how about parliamentary threshold, how about the presidential threshold, of course we respect the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK)," he said.

The rest, he continued, the DPR will perfect the various existing norms, especially how elections can be of higher quality from time to time and the candidates who are selected are the best people.

"Initiating money politics, that's what we think. Talks about helping political parties, how best practices abroad, we don't want corruption, how abroad, that includes things that are integral and it's impossible for me to talk about one aspect alone," said Muzzammil.

Previously, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto said that the government had started drafting the Bill on the Second Amendment to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (Pemilu) which was said to be a package of Political Law.

"The Ministry of Home Affairs is currently drafting, and we are opening a very large public space," Bima said in a Public Discussion on the Revision of the Election Bill Package organized by the Democratic Party at the DPP Office of the Democratic Party, Jakarta, Monday (19/5).

According to him, the public's great aspirations in drafting the bill will produce a more quality law.
