Volvo Introduces World's First Multi-Adaptive Safety Belt, Debuts At EX60

JAKARTA - Automotive manufacturer from Sweden, Volvo has again demonstrated its commitment in terms of driving safety by introducing improvements to the seat belt system.

The system called "Multi-Adaptive Safety Belt" is claimed to be the first technology in the world aimed at improving safety for everyone in a real-time traffic situation.

The new seat belt is designed to better protect people by adapting to traffic variations and the people they use, thanks to real-time data from car advanced sensors.

The world's first 'Multi-Adaptive Safety Belt' is another milestone in automotive safety and a great example of how we leverage real-time data with ambitions to help save millions of lives again,' said Head of Volvo Cars Safety Center, Shave Haglun on the brand's official website, Saturday, June 7.

This system can use data input from interior and exterior sensors to adjust protection, adjust settings based on the user's situation and profile, such as height, weight, body shape, and sitting position.

For example, passengers with greater posture in serious accidents will receive higher belt load settings that contribute to reducing the risk of head injuries.

Smaller passengers will receive lower belt load settings to reduce the risk of broken ribs.

This was achieved by a significant increase in the number of load limiting profile variations, which regulates the style given to passengers in the event of an accident.

Unlike conventional seat belts, Multi-Adaptive Safety Belts can utilize data from various sensors, including exterior sensors, interiors, and collisions.

In less than an instant of the eye, the car system analyzed the unique characteristics of a collision, such as direction, speed, and passenger posture, and shared the information with a seat belt.

In the future, this Multi-Adaptive Safety Belt system can be updated through over-the-air which makes safety performance better over time.

The system will debut on one of Volvo's newest electric vehicle lines, the EX60, which will launch next year.

This innovation continues Volvo's move as a pioneer in driving safety after first introduced the world's first three-point seat belt in 1959 which is claimed to save millions of lives in the world.
