Inter Milan Immediately Announce Cristian Chivu As New Coach

JAKARTA Inter Milan are rumored to be announcing the appointment of Cristian Chivu as their new head coach. This Romanian coach will replace Simone Inzaghi who decides to leave for Saudi Arabia's club, Al Hilal.

This information was conveyed by a well-known Italian transfer expert, Gianluca Di Marzio, through his social media. He said that Chivu had approved a two-year contract with the Nerazzurri, which is valid until June 2027. In the contract, Chivu is said to be receiving a fee of around two million euros, equivalent to IDR 37 billion per season.

Cristian Chivu is not a foreign figure at Inter Milan. The former Romanian defender has been in the Inter uniform for seven seasons from 2007 to 2014. He is part of the legendary Inter squad who won Serie A, Coppa Italia, and the UEFA Champions League under the direction of Jose Mourinho in 2010.

After hanging up his boots in 2014, Chivu started his coaching career at the Inter Milan academy. He had handled various youth teams, from U-14 to U-19. In February 2025, he had the opportunity to handle the senior Parma team, and managed to keep the team in Serie A with three wins, seven draws, and three defeats in the last 13 matches of this season.

Inter's decision to appoint Chivu as a new coach was taken after they failed to secure the services of Cesc Fabregas from Como 1907. The Como club owned by Indonesian entrepreneur Hartono brothers explicitly refused to release Fabregas. Other names such as Patrick Vieira and Roberto De Zerbi were considered, but Inter management finally gave Chivu a choice because of its availability and strong emotional ties with the club.

The appointment of Chivu was carried out with urgent time considerations. Inter Milan must immediately prepare themselves under the direction of a new coach ahead of the match against the MLS club, Monterrey, in the opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup Group E which is scheduled for 18 June 2025.

With experience playing and coaching in the Inter environment, the public and fans hope Chivu is able to bring the club back to compete at the highest level, both in domestic and international competitions.
