PM Anwar Ibrahim Moves! ASEAN Not Silent About Thailand-Kamboja Conflict
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will contact Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to discuss the tensions that have occurred on the border between Thailand and Cambodia.
As Chair of ASEAN 2025, Malaysia feels the need to take a role in encouraging a peaceful settlement between member countries.
Anwar said the official statement would be delivered after he spoke directly with PM Paetongtarn.
"Later we will issue a statement," said Anwar after performing Friday prayers in Putrajaya, Malaysia, quoted from Bernama via Antara, today.
Previously, armed clashes took place on the border of the Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, and Preah Vihear, Cambodia, on May 28, 2025. The incident reportedly caused one death toll from the Cambodian army.
The Cambodian government has stated that it will take the case to the International Court (ICJ), while the Thai side affirms its commitment to resolving conflicts through peaceful channels in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements.
As chairman of ASEAN 2025, Malaysia carries the theme "Inclusiveness and Sustainability" at the ASEAN Summit.
