82-Year-Old Prisoners In Karawang Prison Receive Age Remission
JABAR - The Karawang Regency Correctional Institution (Lapas) provides remission to an elderly (elderly) inmate aged 82 years during the momentum of the 2025 National Elderly Day.
"The convict with the initials S, who is 82 years old, officially received remissions of age over 70 years old from the government," said Head of the Class IIA Karawang Penitentiary Christo Toar during the submission of a remission decree at the Karawang Prison, Thursday, June 5, which was confiscated by Antara.
He conveyed that granting remissions for prisoners over the age of 70 was related to the momentum of the 2025 National Elderly Day.
According to him, the remission is a manifestation of the promotion and protection of human rights (HAM) as an important legal means in realizing the goals of the correctional system.
For this, he encouraged the prisoners to continue to behave well in serving their criminal period and follow the coaching program held by the prison.
The remission decree to the inmate with the initials S, who is 82 years old, was given directly symbolically by the Karawang Kalapas.

Head of the Section for Guidance for Prisoners and Children at the Karawang Prison, Jatmiko, said that prisoners S had served a six-year sentence in Karawang Prison from a total sentence of 13 years.
"Of course (with remission) this will make it easier for S to get parole faster if he continues to show a better attitude change and play an active role in various coaching programs in Karawang Prison," he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Subsection of the Karawang Prison Registration, Farid Sandhika Quri, said that in Karawang Prison, there were actually three inmates over the age of 70.
Of these three elderly inmates, the initials S who received remission for the elderly and one other person underwent a subsidiary. Meanwhile, one other inmate was declared ineligible for administrative requirements to get remission of age over 70 years.
