Prabowo Instruction Minister Trenggono To Build 1,000 Fishermen's Villages Until 2026

JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said President Prabowo Subianto instructed to build 1,000 Red and White Fishing Villages (KNMP) until 2026.

Trenggono admitted that he had reported to the President regarding the fishing village model. The KKP itself has built a Modern Fisherman Village in Samber Binyeri Village, Biak Numfor Regency, Papua.

According to Trenggono, the Head of State has agreed to build more fishing villages.

"I report this to the President, then his answer is that the one starring has just been changed to a fishing village like this. Alhamdulillah, this year it is targeted to (develop) 100 fishing villages, from the one starring it to be shifted to this," Trenggono said in his remarks at the International Day for The Fight Against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing 2025 agenda at the KKP office, Thursday, June 5.

Then, Trenggono said, Prabowo asked to build 1,000 KNMP. According to him, it can increase productivity and fishermen's income by 100 percent.

"Then he (Prabowo) added more in 2025-2026, (as many as) 1,000 Red and White Fishermen's Villages had to be built. Because if this could happen, the productivity of fishing communities would increase and the increase could be 100 percent," he said.

Prabowo's instructions came after Trenggono explained that Modern Fishermen's Village in Samber Binyeri Village, Biak, had succeeded in increasing the production and delivery of fish. With the construction of the Fisherman Village, said Trenggono, the income of the surrounding community also increased from Rp. 3 million to Rp. 6 million per month.

"The monthly result from Rp. 3 million increased to Rp. 6 million per month. This is imagine, it has been 9 times the delivery with containers," he said.

Therefore, Trenggono asked for support from Commission IV of the DPR RI to be able to propose KNMP submission proposals to increase the productivity of fishermen.

"I think this whole Commission IV can propose proposals where the fishing village is really what we can improve. Because if this happens, the productivity of fishing communities will increase," said Trenggono.

"And that increase could be 100 percent, from Rp. 3 million to Rp. 6 million. That's 100 percent increase," he concluded.
