Alert To Extreme Weather! Potential Rain And Lightning Occur In Many Regions Today

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most parts of Indonesia have the potential to experience rain with varying intensity on Thursday, June 5 from light rain to moderate rain accompanied by lightning.

BMKG forecaster Satriana Roguna said that light rain is predicted to occur in a number of major cities on the island of Sumatra, including Banda Aceh, Padang, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, Jambi, and Palembang. Meanwhile, the Medan area is forecasted to experience moderate rain.

On the island of Java, light rain has the potential to flush Serang, Bandung, and Semarang. Meanwhile, the areas of Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya are forecasted to be thick cloudy.

BMKG also warned of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in the Pangkal Pinang area, Bangka Belitung Islands, which the public needs to watch out for.

For the Kalimantan region, Tanjung Selor is forecasted to experience moderate rain, while Banjarmasin is forecasted to be thick cloudy. The potential for rain accompanied by lightning can also occur in Pontianak, Palangkaraya, and Samarinda.

In Sulawesi, light rain has the potential to occur in Mamuju, Palu, and Kendari. Meanwhile, Makassar, Gorontalo, and Manado are forecasted to be thick cloudy.

For Eastern Indonesia, light rain is predicted to occur in Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Nabire, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya. Merauke is predicted to experience moderate rain, while Manokwari is forecasted to be thick cloudy.

Satriana appealed to the public to remain alert to the potential for heavy rain that can be accompanied by lightning, especially in the areas that have been mentioned.
