Regarding The Merger Of Tokopedia And TikTok Shop, Minister Of Trade: They Follow The Rules

JAKARTA - Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso said the integration or merger of the Tokopedia and TikTok Shop by Tokopedia selling centers did not violate the applicable rules.

Budi's statement was echoed by the news regarding Tikpedia's share acquisition by Tiktok. So that the two business entities combine the seller center.

"So friends (Ministry of Trade) have been conveyed to them (Tokopedia and TikTok Shop). They still follow the existing rules, which apply," he said at the Office of the Ministry of Trade, Jakarta, Wednesday, June 4.

Budi ensured that both of them carried out business according to existing regulations and did not violate the applicable regulations.

The rules in question are the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 31 of 2023 concerning Business Licensing, Advertising, Guidance, and Supervision of Business Actors in Trade Through Electronic Systems (PMSE).

"And so far nothing has been violated. So technically it doesn't violate the Permendag either," he said.

For your information, one of the points in Permendag 31/2023 is to prohibit social media from becoming e-commerce.

Therefore, TikTok then acquired Tokopedia and became TikTok Shop by Tokopedia.

The parent company from TikTok Shop, Bytedance, is now combining the sales center of Tokopedia and TikTok Shop by Tokopedia into one place.

The company also appealed to sellers at Tokopedia to move platforms to TikTok Shop by Tokopedia no later than June 9, 2025.
