IMF Data, Unemployment In Indonesia Increases But PCO Uses BPS Data, Even Down

JAKARTA - It is widely reported that there is a projected data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) which states that the number of unemployed in Indonesia reaches 5 percent. However, the Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) Hasan Nasbi, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), stated otherwise.

To reporters, Tuesday, June 3, Hasan Nasbi stated that the open unemployment rate had actually decreased. According to data from BPS submitted by Hasan Nasbi, until early June 2025, the open unemployment rate fell from 4.82 percent to 4.76 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of full-time workers rose from 65.6 percent to 66.2 percent. Although currently there are many layoffs (PHK), Hasan Nasbi claims many new jobs have emerged.

According to Hasan Nasbi, data from the IMF can be used as input for the government to improve Indonesia's economy.
