Customer Data Stolen, Cartier Becomes Victim Of Cyber Attack!
JAKARTA The world's famous luxury jewelry brand, Cartier, confirmed that their website had been hacked and the hackers managed to steal data. This information was conveyed to customers via email quoted by Reuters on Tuesday, June 3.
In the email, Cartier, under the auspices of the Richemont group, said that "the authorities have gained temporary access to our system."
Hacked data includes limited information such as name, email address, and customer country. But Cartier insists that sensitive data such as passwords, credit card numbers, and banking information are not affected.
The Swiss company also says that the problem has been controlled and they have stepped up system protection and coordinated with the relevant authorities. In addition, Cartier also involved external cybersecurity experts to help deal with the incident.
"No brand is completely safe from cyberattacks at this time," said CEO of web intelligence firm Oxylabs, Julius Cerniauskas, quoted by VOI from Reuters. According to him, the perpetrators are now not only hunting down credit card data, but also high-value customer data.

The incident that befell Cartier adds to the long list of global retail brands that have been targeted by cyberattacks in recent times. Previously, Marks & Spencer, Victoria's Secret, The North Face, Harrods, and Co-op Group also experienced similar incidents.
Victoria's Secret was even forced to shut down their website for several days, while Marks & Spencer estimated a loss of up to 300 million as a result of their advanced and directed attacks.
Amid the increasingly massive digital threat, this incident is a warning to the luxury fashion and retail industry that cybersecurity systems should now be a top priority.
