Russia To Integrate Gigachat AI Model To International Space Station
JAKARTA Russia's space agency, Roscosmos, announced plans to integrate the domestically made artificial intelligence (AI) model, Gigachat, into an information technology system on the International Space Station (ISS). This statement was made by the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov, on Tuesday, June 3 at a technology conference in Moscow.
Gigachat was developed by Sberbank, Russia's largest bank, and is one of two leading language models (LLM) of the country, which is trying to catch up with the United States and China in a global race in the AI sector.
"This is direct assistance for cosmonauts," said Bakanov, quoted by VOI from Reuters.

Russia has previously confirmed that it will continue to participate on the ISS until 2028 and also has plans to launch the first two modules of Russia's new space station by 2027.
Meanwhile, Sberbank is focusing its development on AI agents, namely a goal-based generative AI system capable of processing information, making decisions, and acting independently without the need for continuous human intervention.
