Dutch PM Dick Schof Resigns Hours After Wilder Leaves Coalition
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof stepped down on Tuesday, just hours after populist anti-Muslim Gear Wilders withdrew his party PVV out of the far-right coalition.
As reported by Reuters on Tuesday, June 3, ministers from Wilders' PVV party will leave the cabinet, while the remaining ministers will remain working temporarily in the interim government.
General elections will likely not be held before October. The formation of a new government usually takes months given the divided political conditions of the Dutch.
This comes as hardline right-wing groups are developing in Europe, angered by migration and living expenses that risk eroding European unity in the face of Russia and US President Donald Trump.

Wilders said his party withdrew because the other three coalition partners were not willing to support his ideas about asylum and immigration.
"There is no signature in our asylum plan. The PVV left the coalition," Wilders said in a post on X.
Other parties in the coalition now have the option to try and continue as minority governments, although they are not expected to do so.
